Photojournalist Style Wedding Photography

March 3, 2009

First of all, Photojournalism is a long word that we don’t hear so often. Many people hear the word for the very first time and they probably don’t know exaclty what it means. At least I didn’t the first time I heard the term (I was probably a teenager). It is certainly a big word and there’s a lot of meaning behind it but we will not get too technical with terms and origins.

The purpose of photojournalistic wedding photography is not only to capture the moments but to make them stand out in a way different than traditional wedding photography.  It is like telling a story without saying a single word. Unlike traditional wedding photography which is more posed and expected,  photojournalist wedding photography is more candid and focuses on bringing those emotions from a spectator/guest standpoint and not just as a photographer. The practice or the art I should call it, lies in the mind of the photographer. It is his idea of that moment that makes it to the printer and finally to paper.

Great summary Herson! I feel the same way and it’s my preferred way of shooting a wedding honestly. If the photographer pulls it off you will be able to get a sense of the whole day just by looking at the photos. Like Herson said…the pictures tell the story. So for those that weren’t able to make the wedding will feel like they did after looking through the pictures.

    Great Post!
