Birthday Girl

September 21, 2009

Being a wedding photographer in Virginia Beach doesn’t mean I get to shoot only weddings. Of course not! That’s why I spent this last Saturday shooting Shea’s birthday party with my friend Jeremy Grieff. This amazing birthday party took place in aLoft Hotel in Chesapeake, Virginia. This was honestly one of the funnest (yes that’s a word) shoots I’ve ever done. Don’t get me wrong; I enjoy shooting all kinds of stuff including weddings. But with this birthday party there was none of the stress of getting “the shot” because there was no such thing. The only thing Shea told us…….. “make sure you get the shoes” and so we did. Everything else was a matter of catching people being themselves and having a great time like they sure did. Happy birthday and congratulations again to Shea, Clint and their beautiful family.

A bit more than shoot and edit.

September 6, 2009

I’ve been working lately on some projects I’ve had  running in the back of my head 24/7. I’ve also been editing two weddings I had the pleasure of shooting in Virginia Beach a couple of weeks ago. And all that while trying to be a husband and a dad!

The thing about being a wedding photographer is not only the fact that you shoot and edit. A good wedding photographer also cares about his clients. Keeping in touch with your past,  current and future clients is an important part of being a wedding photographer and having a business. Why? Most people would think that once you shoot a wedding and deliver the product you’re done with that couple. Well, that’s true in part but at least for me I not only meet a couple and shoot their wedding but it allows me to create a friendship as well and that’s why I do it. Even if it’s a “Hey, how are you guys doing” through Facebook. And if you’re thinking about hiring me and you’re reading this don’t worry because I’m not one of those weird stalkers either. ;)

Another big part of it’s the things you do to keep your business “out there”. Most wedding photographers will agree with me that marketing your photography services is a big big BIG and important part of defining how many weddings you want to shoot a year as well as it is very time consuming. Let’s face it; you’re not going to get any business by just sitting in front of the phone expecting a call. Maybe by word of mouth once you’re established but to me that still doesn’t cut it.

So, all in all, that has been the story of my life lately. Keep an eye on the blog for coming updates!
